Chuman
University: Columbia University, Alumni
Mr. Chuman has been a professor of Human Rights and International
Law, Religion and Human Rights, and Philosophy for seventeen
years. He has taught at Hunter College in New York City, Columbia
University, United Nations University for Peace in Ciudad
Colon, Costa Rica, and Fairleigh Dickinson University and
William Paterson College in New Jersey. He has also taught
Ethics at Fieldton High School in New York City, and served
as Associate Dean and Mentor at the Humanist Institute.
Mr. Chuman receive his BA in Latin at Queens College, and
MA and Doctorate in Religion at Columbia University. He has
also served as leader of the Ethical Culture Society in Teaneck,
New Jersey and as founder and coordinator of the Northern
New Jersey Group of Amnesty International for eleven years.
In addition, he has worked with the homeless and affordable
housing in New Jersey, and is coordinator of the Northern
New Jersey Sanctuary for Central American refugees.
Mr. Chuman was the founder and editor of The Journal of Humanism
and Ethical Religion from 1988-1992, and has written numerous
articles in The New York Times, The Record, Free Inquiry,
The Humanist, Humanistic Judaism, and Humanism Today.
Mr. Chuman has been presented with the following awards: "Hero
of Social Conscience" award given by the Puffin Cultural
Arts Forum, March 2000, “Meritorious Service and Commitment”
Resolution of the New Jersey General Assembly and the “Community
Service” award given by Bergen County, New Jersey, November
2000.
Eloisa
Tigre
Ms.
Eloisa Tigre is a transportation engineer at Science Applications
International Corporation (SAIC). She has five years of research
and practical experience in the civil engineering field. This
experience includes program management support for the Federal
Highway Administration and the National Weather Service. Ms.
Tigre is fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish; she is
currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in natural resource
management. Ms. Tigre is honored to serve on the Board of
Directors for the Student World Assembly (SWA); she looks
forward to assisting SWA in reaching its goals worldwide.
